Fore

I'm not a golfer. I caddied for my brother once and perhaps it was the joyless task of carrying my older brother's heavy bag, but the game simply did not get my attention. However, I know that there are those who cannot begin a MARAC conference without a round, in which case you have a lot to choose from while in Williamsburg cuz Williamsburg has golf and early November is usually a perfectly fine time for a few holes.

In no particular order (because, again, just to remind everyone, I do not play golf):
  • Kingsmill Resort currently hosts the LPGA's Michelob ULTRA Open and is also your option closest to the conference hotel.
  • The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club at Colonial Williamsburg hosted the NCAA Men's Championship this year and if you go, you must let me know if the staff wears period costume.
  • Williamsburg National features courses designed by the Nicklaus Design group and Tom Clark.
  • Ford's Colony offers another 54 holes of golf designed by Dan Maples. OK, I must admit that I do not know who Dan Maples is. Nicklaus? Check. Tom Clark? Sounds familiar. Dan Maples? Blank stare.
  • Kiskiak, Stonehouse, and others as well!
Check out this map and this page for more information on local courses.

I will save the miniature golf for another post because trust me when I say that there is enough here for an entire post. Note that since what might just be my first winning round of miniature golf ever last summer, I have very fond feelings for miniature golf. And go-karts. It is a good thing I live where I do, I guess.

That is what I said said...

If you really want to plan ahead and maybe save a little cash, a couple golf courses offer gift certificates at local radio station "The Tide" 92.3 FM's "Save 30 Store."
