Today's Google logo featured a pinata in honor of the behemoth's 9th birthday, which on top of being Thursday pretty much guarantees I will be eating Mexican for dinner tonight. How does Thursday factor into my dinner choice? Well, Thursday is usually the evening that a mariachi can be found at La Tolteca's 2nd Ave. location in Williamsburg. The mariachi usually makes his way to the restaurant's Richmond Rd. location for Friday diners. La Tolteca has been voted Williamsburg's best Mexican for much of the last decade if you are the sort of person to put your faith in what the locals like.
If you prefer to avoid the mariachi altogether, South of the Border is just down the street from La Tolteca. I have not dared to order their largest margarita as something about a glass as large as my head is not terribly appealing to me, but you should feel free to try it for yourself.
Tequila Rose is another offering located on the same strip of pavement as La Tolteca and South of the Border except the road's name has changed to Merrimac Trail in Tequila Rose's neighborhood. There is a second Tequila Rose on Richmond Rd., but it is a bit further out and most folks staying at the conference hotel will find the Merrimac Trail (Rt. 143) location much closer.
Casa Maya ranks third among locals, but is actually fourth in my mind. This is probably due more to location as all things being equal, some of the other three restaurants are closer for a lunch away from the office for me. Casa Maya can be found on Richmond Road as well.

Just wondering, if anyone knows if the Mariachi is at La Tolteca on Saturdays. My Birthday will be on a Saturday.
Hmmm, I don't know where to find a mariachi on a Saturday. I would give La T a call and ask or just celebrate your birthday on Thursday and Friday.
